Week 3 Listening Blog: I Got Rhythm
This week I chose to write about "I Got Rhythm" by George/Ira Gershwin. I chose to write about this song because I found it super fun, there were lots of variations, and I thought the woman's vocals were really interesting. The original composition is a piano piece with no vocals, and this version was super calm and relaxing. I didn't find it to be super bouncy and fun (like the version we listened to in class was), but this was different in that it was much more calm and complex. This song still evokes happy emotions and doesn't bring in any sadness. This music surprised me because it was so different than what we listened to in class, and I was expecting it to have lyrics and be kind of crazy like the one we listened to, but it was pretty mellow. I didn't think the piano broke away from its traditional role, but I definitely felt like there was a lot going on. My favorite part of the song was the chorus and the last minute of it because the piano started getting really complex and fun, but I didn't have a least favorite part because the song was pretty competitive.
