Week 4 Listening Blog
For my post this week, I listened to "Blue Yodel No. 2 (My Lovin' Gal Lucille). This song was really fun to listen to! I loved how old timey it sounded, and how different it is from today's country music. This song really proves how it has changed over the time. There is a banjo solo (I think) in the middle of the song that makes the song so much catchier, and the melody is super repetitive which probably made the song really successful. My favorite element of the song is the melody he has come up with. It is really catchy, and I also think a lot of people could probably relate to this guy's struggles. The lyrics in the song are pretty sad, because he keeps talking about how his girlfriend Lucille is leaving him. Toward the end of the song, he talks about going to Birmingham jail, and then he talks about never wanting to get married or settle down and pretty much says he will be single until the police kill him. Overall, the technique in this song is really impressive. He's a great yodeler and it is so interesting that people used to love songs like these because you get to see how much the taste has changed over the decades.
I really like the way that you have compared this song to more modern music. I always like to look back and see how much music has changed over the decades. I mostly listen to older music, but I also love a lot of the new stuff that people come up with. I also really like the melody of the song, probably my favorite part as well. Keep up the good work!
